Introduction to WHM and Reseller FAQ

WebHost Manager (WHM) is the administration interface for managing the cPanel accounts hosted on your Exact Hosting reseller server. This article introduces the WHM layout, the privileges available to reseller users, and answers common questions about where to find more documentation.

About WHM for resellers

The WHM interface gives reseller users administrative privileges over the cPanel accounts they manage. From WHM, you can create new cPanel accounts, suspend or terminate accounts, change hosting packages, edit DNS zones, and monitor server-level activity. End users continue to use cPanel for their own websites, email, and files; WHM is the layer above that you, as the reseller, control.

Understanding the WHM interface

When you sign in to WHM, the main areas of the interface are:

  • Top bar. Shows the WHM theme and provides quick links to WHM and cPanel support documentation and community forums.
  • Quick links. Buttons for common tasks such as List Accounts, Add a Package, and Create a New Account.
  • Side navigation. A search bar and a categorized list of every feature available to your reseller account.
  • Logout. Securely sign out of WHM when you finish your session.

Tip: The fastest way to find any WHM tool is to use the side-navigation search bar. Type a keyword such as "package", "DNS", or "suspend" to filter the menu.

Common reseller tasks

  • Create a new cPanel account. Provision hosting for a new customer.
  • Modify a cPanel account. Update settings such as domain, contact email, or resource limits.
  • Suspend or un-suspend an account. Temporarily disable a customer's services without deleting data.
  • Terminate an account. Permanently delete a cPanel account and all of its data.
  • Add or edit a hosting package. Define the resource and feature template assigned to accounts.
  • Edit DNS zones. Manage DNS records for domains that use your server's nameservers.

What privileges does my reseller account have?

Reseller privileges are configured by the root user (typically Exact Hosting). At minimum, resellers can create, modify, suspend, and terminate the cPanel accounts they own, and assign those accounts to hosting packages within their resource limits.

Do I need WHM to manage my own website?

No. WHM is for managing the cPanel accounts you sell or assign to customers. To manage your own website's files, email, or databases, sign in to cPanel for that specific account.
