Changing Your WHM Password

You can reset the password for your WHM reseller console at any time from the Exact Hosting client area. This article walks you through finding the reseller plan in the client area and saving a new password.

About WHM passwords

Your WHM password is the credential used to sign in to the reseller console where you manage cPanel accounts. Resetting it from the Exact Hosting client area changes the password for both WHM and the cPanel account associated with the reseller plan. Plan to reset the password if you suspect it has been compromised or any time it has been shared.

Note: Resetting the password here updates both your cPanel and WHM password. Any saved sessions or applications that use the old password (such as FTP clients) will need to be updated.

Before you begin

  • Client area credentials. You need the email address and Exact Hosting password used to access the client area at my.exacthosting.com/clientarea.php.
  • An active reseller plan. The reseller plan must show as Active in your Services list.
  • A strong new password. Prepare a long, unique password that combines upper and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols.

Step 1: Sign in to the client area

  1. Open my.exacthosting.com/clientarea.php.
  2. Enter your account email and Exact Hosting password.
  3. Click Login.

Step 2: Open your reseller plan

  1. From the dashboard, click the Services quick link.
  2. Locate your reseller plan in the list.
  3. Click the Active button to the right of the reseller plan to open its management page.

Step 3: Open the Change Password action

  1. In the Actions panel on the management page, click Change Password.

Step 4: Set a new password

  1. Enter your new password in the New Password field.
  2. Re-enter the password in the Confirm Password field.
  3. Click Save Changes to apply the new password.
  4. Wait for the client area to display a confirmation that the password has been updated.

Tip: Use a password manager to generate and store a strong password so you do not need to remember or write it down.

Step 5: Verify the new password

  1. Sign out of WHM if you currently have a session open.
  2. Sign in to WHM again using the new password to confirm it works.
  3. Update any FTP, email, or third-party applications that stored the previous password.

Next steps

  • Update saved credentials. Refresh password managers, browser-saved logins, and any tools that connect with the old password.
  • Review account access. If you reset the password because of suspected compromise, audit recently created cPanel accounts, FTP users, and email forwarders.
  • Enable two-factor authentication (if available). Add an additional layer of security to your client area account.
