Using Webmail RSS at Exact Hosting

The RSS tab in Exact Hosting Webmail brings the headlines from your favourite blogs and websites into your mailbox. Instead of visiting every site to check for updates, you subscribe to each one once and read new items from a single list. This article shows you how to add, organize, and remove feeds.

How RSS fits into Webmail

RSS is one of the optional Webmail components alongside Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Files, and Settings. It lives in the same sidebar and uses the same layout conventions as the other tabs. For an overview of how every component connects, see The Complete Exact Hosting Webmail Guide.

What RSS shows you

The RSS component is made up of two parts:

  • RSS feed list -- every site you subscribe to, organized into categories if you create any.
  • RSS feed display -- the items in the selected feed, newest first, each one a link to the original article on the source website.

Feed lists are updated regularly so you always see the latest items.

Before you begin

  • A working Exact Hosting Enhanced Email mailbox. You must be signed in to Webmail.
  • The URL of each feed you want to follow. Most blogs and news sites publish a feed URL on their site, often under "RSS", "Subscribe", or an orange feed icon.

Adding a feed

  1. Open the RSS tab.
  2. Click Actions in the top-right corner.
  3. Choose Subscribe to feed.
  4. Type the URL in the Feed or site URL field.
  5. Optionally, choose a category from the Place in category drop-down.
  6. Click Subscribe.

Accessing a feed

  1. In the feeds list, click the name of the feed you want to view. The articles appear in the centre pane, newest first.
  2. To read an article in full, click its title. The original page opens in your browser.

Deleting a feed

  1. Right-click the feed you want to delete and choose Edit feed.
  2. Click Unsubscribe.
  3. Click Ok in the confirmation pop-up.

Tip: You can also open a feed first and choose Unsubscribe from the Actions menu.

Organizing feeds with categories

Categories group related feeds so you can find them faster.

Note: A new category does not appear in the feeds list until at least one feed has been added to it.

Add a new category

  1. From the Actions drop-down, choose Preferences.
  2. On the Feeds tab, from the Categories drop-down, choose Add category.
  3. Enter a name in the Category title field and click Ok.
  4. Optionally, move existing feeds into the new category. You can either drag the feed onto the category folder, or open the feed, choose the category from the Place in category drop-down, and click Save.
  5. Click Exit preferences to return to the feeds list.

Reorder feeds and categories

By default, categories and the feeds inside each category are listed alphabetically. To change the order:

  1. From the Actions drop-down, choose Preferences.
  2. Click the Feeds tab.
  3. Click a feed or category and drag it to its new location.
  4. Click Exit preferences to return to the feeds list.
