Redirecting domains and websites

This document describes how to setup a redirect via your cPanel account. The Redirects interface allows you to send all of the visitors of a domain or particular page to a different URL.

For example, if you create a page with a long URL, use the Redirects interface to add a redirect from a short URL to the long URL. Visitors can enter the short URL to access the content of the long URL.

For more information, view the cPanel documentation here.

  1. Login to cPanel from or by going to yourdomain.tld/cpanel.
  2. Navigate to the Domains panel and select Redirects.
  3. On the Redirects page specify your preferred options when creating your redirect. Once complete click Add below.
Specify the "Type" of redirect you wish to enable as it can either be:
    • Permanent (301) — Notifies the visitor’s browser to update its records.
    • Temporary (302) — Does not update the visitor’s bookmarks.
      1. Specify the "https?://(www.)?" which is the option to specify your specific domain or select All Public Domains which applies the redirect to all listed domains on the cPanel account.
      2. In the box below the "https?://(www.)?" you may specify the rest of the URL you want redirected.
An example would be if you want a specific page such as "" to be redirected enter in "content/about.html".
      3. You may also leave the box blank if you wish to redirect your main domain. An example of this would be "" would be what a blank box represents.
      4. Specify the where you would like to "Redirect to" by entering the URL following the format "".
      5. Select what situation you want your "redirect:" to apply:
        • Only redirect with www. — This option only redirects when www is specified in the URL.
        • Redirect with or without www. — This option redirects for both when a www record is present and when it is not.
        • Do Not Redirect www. — This option does not redirect users who enter the www prefix.
      6. Select the "Wild Card Redirect" option if you wish to redirect all files in a specific directory to the same file name in a different directory.
        • For example, if you enable the "Wild Card Redirect" option and redirects to, then a visitor who tries to access the URL will redirect to the URL.

4. Once you are done adding your redirect they will be listed at the bottom of the page and you may remove redirects by clicking Delete at the end of the redirect's line.
