This guide walks you through adding your Exact Hosting mailbox to an Android phone or tablet using the Gmail app, which comes preinstalled on most Android devices and can manage non-Gmail accounts. The steps are similar in other Android mail apps.
Note: Android menu labels vary by manufacturer (Samsung, Google Pixel, etc.) and Gmail app version. The flow below reflects a current Gmail app; confirm wording if your device differs.
Before you begin
- Your full email address and password. The username is always your complete address; the password is your email account password, not your Exact Hosting portal password.
- Your incoming/outgoing server name and ports. These depend on your product and server. Look them up in the Email Server Settings Reference (IMAP, POP, SMTP).
- An app-specific password, if you use 2FA. If two-factor authentication is on for your Enhanced Email account, the mail app needs an app-specific password. See Creating App-Specific Passwords for Email.
Tip: Choose IMAP, not POP, so your mail stays in sync across your devices. See IMAP vs POP: Which Should You Use?.
Step 1: Start adding an account
- Open the Gmail app.
- Tap your profile icon in the top right, then tap Add another account.
- On the Set up email screen, tap Other.
Step 2: Enter your address and choose IMAP
- Type your full email address and tap Next.
- When asked for the account type, tap Personal (IMAP).
- Enter your password (or app-specific password if 2FA is on) and tap Next.
Step 3: Enter the server settings
If the Gmail app does not configure the servers automatically, enter them manually using the server settings reference.
Incoming server settings
- Username — your full email address.
- Password — your email or app-specific password.
- Server — your incoming server (for example, email.exacthosting.com for Enhanced Email cluster A).
- Confirm the security type is SSL/TLS and the port is 993 (IMAP).
- Tap Next.
Outgoing server settings
- Confirm Require sign-in is enabled.
- SMTP server — the same server as incoming.
- Username and Password — the same as incoming.
- Confirm the security type is SSL/TLS and the port is 465.
- Tap Next.
Warning: Always use SSL/TLS with the secure ports. Plain or unencrypted connections expose your password.
Step 4: Finish and test
- Set your account options (sync frequency, notifications) and tap Next.
- Confirm your name as you want it shown on outgoing mail, then tap Next.
- Open the account, refresh, and send a test message to yourself to confirm it works.
