Registrar lock is a feature that prevents unauthorized domain transfers away from your current registrar. Before you can transfer a domain to another registrar, you must disable the registrar lock on the domain. This article walks you through how to do that from your Exact Hosting Portal.
About registrar lock
Registrar lock is enabled by default on most domain registrations as a security measure. While the lock is on, the domain cannot be transferred away, even if a transfer is requested with a valid authorization code. Disabling the lock is a required step in the outbound transfer workflow.
Warning: Only disable the registrar lock when you are actively preparing to transfer the domain. Re-enable the lock if the transfer is cancelled or delayed.
Before you begin
- Access to your Exact Hosting Portal account. You sign in at my.exacthosting.com.
- The domain must be in your account. You can only manage registrar lock on domains you own under this account.
Step 1: Sign in to the Exact Hosting Portal
Open your browser and go to the Exact Hosting Portal. Sign in with your account credentials.
Step 2: Open the Domains list
From the main navigation, select Domains. This displays all domains in your account.
Step 3: Open the domain admin page
Find the domain you want to manage and click either the Active button or the wrench icon next to it. This opens the admin page for that domain.
Step 4: Disable the registrar lock
- In the left panel, select Registrar lock.
- Click Disable Registrar lock.
The registrar lock is now off, and the domain is ready for the transfer process.
Next steps
- Prepare the domain for transfer. See Preparing a domain to transfer out for the remaining steps, including retrieving the authorization (EPP) code.
- Transferring a domain to Exact Hosting? See Transfer your domain to Exact Hosting.
- Re-enable the lock when you are done. If you decide not to transfer the domain, return to the Registrar lock page and re-enable the lock to protect it.
