Things to know before transferring
To make sure your domain name can be transferred successfully, please check the following:
- Once you have approved the transfer, we cannot cancel it.
- Set up any DNS changes before the transfer. Once in a pending transfer status, domain changes cannot be made.
- Per ICANN's Policy on Transfer of Registrations between Registrars, domains that were recently transferred between Registrars cannot be transferred again until the 60-day time frame has elapsed.
- There is a 60-day transfer lock applied to new domain registrations and domain transfers. ICANN enforces this policy, and all domain Registrars must follow it.
- The new provider may require the admin or owner's contact email address to receive and approve the transfer before it can be initiated. Once this is approved, the transfer will be submitted.
Preparing your domain to transfer
To prepare your domain for transfer, it's a quick two-step process.
Before you request the Extensible Provisioning Protocol (EPP) key, ensure the registrant email on file is accessible as the EPP key will be sent there.
Note: If you need to update your registrant email, make sure to opt-out of the 60-day transfer lock. Once this lock is applied, we cannot lift it, and you'll need to wait before transferring.
Disabling the registrar lock
- Log into your Exact Hosting Portal.
-
Select Domains.
- Click either the Active button or the wrench icon to access the domain admin page.
- Select Registrar lock on the left panel and then Disable Registrar lock.
Obtain the EPP code
The EPP key is sent to your Registrant contact details, ensure they are valid. If you need to update your registrant email, opt-out of the 60-day transfer lock. Once this lock is applied, we cannot lift it, and you'll need to wait before transferring.
- Log into your Exact Hosting Portal.
-
Select Domains.
- Select Active or the Wrench icon to access the domain admin page.
- Click Get EPP code.
Note: Upon receiving the EPP key, provide this code to the gaining registrar to initiate the transfer. The transfer process is automated and may take up to 5-7 days.
Transferring .UK domains
Before a .UK ccTLD domain can be transferred; the losing registrar must update the Internet Provider Security (IPS) tag before the transfer initiates. Please reach out to your new provider to obtain the IPS tag.
Once you have your new IPS tag, please contact support, and we'll get that changed for you.
