Exact Hosting has partnered with Lycos to provide a continuity path for customers whose email services are being discontinued. Exact Hosting is simply providing a new home for your mailboxes so your email addresses, history, and service remain intact.
Once your mailbox has been migrated, you will manage your email account through Exact Hosting's client area. If you're new to Exact Hosting, you may want to review the Exact Hosting Client Area Management Guide before getting started.
Before You Begin
If you have an @lycos.com email address, you will need to purchase or use an existing domain name in order for us to migrate your email. @lycos.com domains will not be supported on our platform.
Regarding Lycos Email Addresses
Email addresses ending in @lycos.com are no longer supported and will no longer be available.
If you are currently using a @lycos.com email address, you will need to transition to a new or existing mailbox. You can migrate the contents of your existing Lycos mailbox (such as emails and folders) to another email account that you own.
We recommend completing this migration as soon as possible to avoid losing access to your email data.
- Access to your Lycos email address. During the verification step, Exact Hosting support will send a one-time code to one or more email addresses on file with Lycos. You must be able to receive that email to complete the migration.
- A support channel ready. You will need to contact Exact Hosting support via ticket or live chat to complete account activation. Have the Exact Hosting Support Portal open and ready.
Note: The migration process requires coordination with our support team. It cannot be completed entirely self-serve at this time.
Step 1: Place a New Order in the Exact Hosting Client Area
Your migration begins by placing an order for an email hosting plan in the Exact Hosting client area. Any financial payments made to Lycos or refund requests should be directed to them, as purchasing email with Exact Hosting establishes a new billing term.
- Visit the Hosted Email support guide.
- Select the plan that matches your mailbox needs and proceed through checkout.
- Complete the order submission.
Note: Your order will not provision automatically. Because your email domain is already registered with Lycos, the system will detect a conflict and the provisioning will fail. This is expected, do not place a second order. Proceed to Step 2 to complete activation through support.
Step 2: Contact Exact Hosting Support
After placing your order, reach out to Exact Hosting support to begin the account activation process. You can contact us by:
- Submitting a support ticket through the Exact Hosting Support Portal
- Starting a live chat from the support portal
Let the support advisor know that you have placed a new email hosting order and that you are a Lycos customer requesting a mailbox migration. Include your order number if available.
Step 3: Verify Your Identity With a One-Time Code
To confirm you are the authorized account holder, Exact Hosting support will send a one-time verification code to one or more of the email addresses associated with your Lycos account. Additional verification might be necessary at Exact Hosting's discretion.
- Let the support advisor know which email address(es) you have access to so they can send the code to the right inbox.
- Check your inbox for an email from Exact Hosting containing your one-time code.
- Provide that code to the support advisor in your ticket reply or chat session.
Note: The one-time code is time-sensitive. If it expires before you're able to use it, ask the support advisor to resend it.
Warning: Do not share this code with anyone other than the Exact Hosting support advisor assisting you. Exact Hosting staff will never ask for this code outside of an active support session.
Step 4: Support Completes the Domain Migration
Once your identity has been verified, the Exact Hosting support advisor will migrate your email from Lycos to your new Exact Hosting account. You do not need to take any action during this step.
The advisor will confirm when the migration is complete. This process is typically completed within the same support session.
Step 5: Access and Manage Your New Account
With your email domain now active under Exact Hosting, you can log in to the client area and begin managing your mailboxes.
- Go to the Exact Hosting Client Area.
- If this is your first time logging in, use the Forgot Password link to set up access with your email address.
- From your dashboard, navigate to your email hosting service to manage mailboxes, passwords, storage, and settings.
Tip: Bookmark the Exact Hosting Client Area for easy access going forward. All billing, account management, and support requests will be handled here.
