Setting Up Email Forwarding (Enhanced Email)

Email forwarding sends a copy of incoming messages from your Enhanced Email mailbox on to another address — useful for routing mail to a colleague, consolidating addresses into one inbox, or covering someone who is away. This guide shows you how to set up forwarding in Webmail and explains the Forward Opt-In approval step that applies to Enhanced Email.

About forwarding on Enhanced Email

Forwarding is set per mailbox in Webmail's Mail forwarding settings. When it is on, incoming messages are forwarded to the recipients you list. Forwarding is different from an alias, which is just an additional address that lands in the same mailbox — forwarding sends mail out to a different address.

Note: Effective September 18, 2025, Enhanced Email requires forward recipients to opt in. The person you forward to must approve the request before any forwarded mail reaches them. See Forward Opt-In for Enhanced Email for how that approval works.

Before you begin

  • Access to Exact Hosting Webmail. You must be able to sign in to the mailbox you want to forward from.
  • The destination address. The address you want messages forwarded to, and the ability to have its owner approve the opt-in request.

Step 1: Open mail forwarding settings

  1. Sign in to Exact Hosting Webmail.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Click Mail forwarding. For an overview of the Settings menu, see Using the Webmail Settings Menu at Exact Hosting.

Step 2: Add forwarding recipients

  1. Enable mail forwarding.
  2. Enter the address (or addresses) you want incoming mail forwarded to.
  3. Save your changes.

Tip: If you want to keep a copy in your Exact Hosting inbox as well as forward it, check for a "keep a copy" option when you enable forwarding.

Step 3: Have the recipient approve the opt-in

Because of Forward Opt-In, the destination address receives a request to approve receiving your forwarded mail. Until they approve, forwarded messages are held and not delivered.

  1. Let the recipient know to expect an approval request.
  2. The recipient follows the approval link in that request.
  3. Once approved, forwarding begins delivering mail.

See Forward Opt-In for Enhanced Email for the full opt-in workflow and limits.

Turning forwarding off

  1. In Settings, click Mail forwarding.
  2. Remove the recipient addresses or disable forwarding.
  3. Save your changes.

Forwarding vs. filters

If you only want to forward some messages — for example, anything from a particular sender — use a filter with a "Redirect message to" action instead of forwarding everything. See the filters section of Using the Webmail Settings Menu at Exact Hosting.
