Syncing Calendar & Contacts to Your Devices (CalDAV/CardDAV)

Your Exact Hosting Enhanced Email account can sync its calendar and contacts to your phone, tablet, or computer using two open standards: CalDAV for calendars and CardDAV for contacts. Once set up, events and contacts you create in Webmail appear on your device, and changes sync both ways after a refresh.

About CalDAV and CardDAV

CalDAV syncs calendar data across devices. It works with iOS, macOS, Android, Outlook, Thunderbird, and Google Calendar.

CardDAV syncs contacts, including groups, across devices. It works with the same range of platforms.

The connection details for syncing live in Webmail's External access section. For an overview, see Using the Webmail Settings Menu at Exact Hosting.

Before you begin

  • Your email credentials. Your full email address and password.
  • Your server hostname. Use the same server as your mail client — email.exacthosting.com (Enhanced Email cluster A) or mail.exacthosting.com (cluster B). If you are unsure which cluster you are on, see Step 1 of Configuring Email DNS Records and Mail Client Settings.

Warning: Always include the https:// prefix in any base URL you enter — the SSL certificate requires the full URL. If your domain does not have a matching SSL certificate, you may see a warning during setup; accept it to continue.

Step 1: Set up CalDAV on iPhone or iPad

After setup, your Webmail calendar events appear in the iOS Calendar app.

  1. Open Settings and tap Calendar.
  2. Tap Accounts, then Add Account.
  3. Tap Other, then Add CalDAV Account.
  4. Fill in the fields below and tap Next.

Step 2: Set up CardDAV on iPhone or iPad

After setup, your Webmail contacts appear in the iOS Contacts app.

  1. Open Settings and tap Contacts.
  2. Tap Accounts, then Add Account.
  3. Tap Other, then Add CardDAV Account.
  4. Fill in the same Server, User Name, and Password values as above and tap Next.

Step 3: Set up sync on Android (DAVx⁵ / OpenSync)

Android does not support CalDAV/CardDAV natively, so use a sync app such as DAVx⁵ or OpenSync.

  1. In the app, add a New Account.
  2. Choose Login with URL and username.
  3. Enter the base URL, your email address as the username, and your email password:
    • Calendar: https://<your-email-server>/caldav/youremailaddress
    • Contacts: https://<your-email-server>/carddav/youremailaddress
  4. Tap Next, then select the calendars or address books you want to sync.

Note: Always include the https:// prefix in the base URL. The SSL certificate requires the full URL.

Step 4: Confirm syncing works

Create a test event or contact in Webmail, then refresh the Calendar or Contacts app on your device. The new item should appear within a few minutes. Make a change on your device and confirm it appears back in Webmail.
