If you suddenly cannot reach your website, cPanel, webmail, or FTP from your usual location, your IP address may have been blocked by our server firewalls. This article shows you how to check for the block and remove it from the Exact Hosting client portal.
Why IP addresses get blocked
Our server firewalls automatically block IP addresses after too many invalid password attempts, repeated failed logins, or other unusual activity from a local network. This is a security feature designed to protect your hosting account from brute-force attacks. If you are blocked, you will typically be unable to connect to your services from your current network, but the site may still be reachable from other networks (for example, mobile data).
Before you begin
- Your Exact Hosting client portal credentials. You need to be able to log in to the portal to run the unblock tool.
- A working internet connection on the blocked network. The unblock tool detects your current IP automatically, so run it from the network that is blocked.
Step 1: Log in to the Exact Hosting client portal
- Open the Exact Hosting client portal in your browser.
- Enter your account credentials and sign in.
Step 2: Open the Unblock IP Address tool
- From the top navigation, open the Support menu.
- Select Unblock IP Address.
Step 3: Run the IP block check
- Click Check for IP Block and Remove.
- The tool will check the firewall for your current IP address. It will tell you one of two things:
- The IP block was found and removed.
- Your IP address is not blocked (not found in the firewall).
Tip: If the tool reports your IP is not blocked but you still cannot reach your site, the issue is likely something else. See Troubleshooting Website Loading Issues.
Next steps
- Test your access. Try logging in to cPanel, FTP, or webmail again to confirm the block was removed.
- Review what caused the block. If your IP is blocked repeatedly, check for incorrect saved passwords in your devices, email clients, or FTP applications.
- Contact support if blocks persist. If you continue to be blocked after removing the block, reach out for further investigation.
